On July 18-20 Stuff Your Face with Bacon Creations, Libations & Barrel-Aged Spirits at Bacon & Barrels
We’re waiting impatiently, poring over bacon posts on Facebook, dying to get our hands on those Chocolate Bacon Piggy Backs and Maple Bacon Old Fashioneds we see in the feed. Just one more week, we keep saying to ourselves. What we’re waiting for is the best bacon festival ever: Bacon & Barrels in Los Olivos, California. This is a weekend where chefs, mixologists, breweries, distilleries and wineries come together in a field in the charming town in the middle of Santa Barbara wine country. They serve up sliders, main dishes, ice cream, desserts, garden-to-glass cocktails (with bacon) artisan whiskeys, small-batch scotches and wine, wine, wine. Award-winning wine. W hat better to go with award-winning bacon dishes from local, heritage pigs? That’s why we love bacon festivals. The second annual Saturday grand tasting was named one of the Top 5 Festivals in California by the Huffington Post and is the main draw for the weekend. There is also a Friday night dinner and a Sunday brunch. Dinner will be by Chef Jake Francis of Valley Piggery, and Chef Jeff Olsson of Industrial Eats including 4 party-in-your-mouth courses paired with Saarloos & Sons wine and plenty of witty Saarloos banter. Sunday’s brunch teams up with Louise’s Kitchen Table & Lido at Dolphin Bay with a Bacon Bourbon Bread Pudding on their brunch menu and Sidecar with a Bloody & Bellini Bar, including the “Carnivore” Bloody – with candied chipotle bacon and salami, and “The Cleanse” – juiced kale, spinach, cucumber, green apple, jalapeño and vodka. Super healthy right? Bacon festival.
The whole thing was dreamed up and is annually produced by Holly Holliday of Create Promotions, who added San Diego to the tour list this year. This lady really brings home the bacon, hopefully to a city near you. She’s your bacon festival dream girl.
